I am attempting to connect a new device to the router via wifi. The device is not functioning properly (no internet access). In the list of attached devices, it shows up but with no IP address assigned to it. What can cause this? The manufacturer of the device tells me that it uses DHCP so it should get assigned an IP. See attached.
I've found settings on the Netgear router for various IP and Gateway addresses but I've unsure which are the correct fields to change. The best guide I've located online seems to suggest I need to give the Netgear router an 'internal' ip address of 192.168.0.2 and possibly change the gateway address fron 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1 (i.e. the ip I am attempting to connect a new device to the router via wifi. Apart from having a Public IP address, your router or modem also has a private IP, or internal IP that is used to communicate with devices in the local network. - In my old router (not wireless, a Netgear 314, I just need it for extra wired ports) I turned off DHCP and set the IP address to 192.168.0.201 Should be all good and indeed after wiring up correctly (LAN port to LAN port between devices, not using the internet port on the Access Point), machines connected to the AP can see machines connected
