On my power menu Sleep option gone grey. Red through some posts, done this: 1. went to power options but there's no access to change parameters for sleeping options. Just missing. 2. went to START, Command Prompt and typed "powercfg -h on" which gave me this message: "The following items are preventing hibernation on this system.

The “sleep” or “hibernate” functions that run by default in Windows 7 can prove to be problematic. I advise my clients to restrict hibernate/sleep functions for usage only in absolutely needed circumstances. It is commonly problematic and seldom ever fixed. Myriads of causes you can spend weeks trying to find. Just not worth it. PC Resumes normally. Push sleep immediately again, PC goes to sleep, and 1 out of every 3 or 4 times actually goes into true sleep with fans OFF--the way it should.

The disadvantage is a 5 second delay while Windows 7 manages the switch back to normal power mode. In the event of a power failure you would lose any unsaved data which is stored in RAM.
